The European Society for Soil Conservation (ESSC) was founded on 4th November 1988 to promote soundly based policies of soil conservation in its broadest sense throughout the countries of Europe.
The ESSC is an interdisciplinary, non-political association with more than 500 members in 42 countries.
The society has established a series of Task Forces to investigate important soil conservation problems. Current Task Forces are concerned with:
- Soil quality criteria
- Traditional soil and water conservation systems
- Land use changes and soil conservation
- Farm scale management for soil conservation
- EU thematic soil strategy
- Desertification
- Soil erosion map of Europe
- Data bank on erosion plot studies
